Two shouts in two days for Cowes RNLI

The yacht approaches Trinity Landing on Friday with the lifeboat alongside and the launch standing by

A yacht that had a rope around its propeller was towed to safety by Cowes RNLI lifeboat yesterday (Saturday) evening.

The lone sailor aboard the 23-foot Lymington based craft had sought assistance near a sand bank just east of Ryde Pier. The lifeboat eventually towed the boat to a pontoon in Wootton Creek, and returned to the lifeboat station just before 8 pm.

On Friday a vintage yacht that suffered engine trouble in a wind-tossed Osborne Bay also resulted in the launching of Cowes lifeboat. After launching at 11.20 am the lifeboat took the yacht, crewed by two men, in tow and eventually it was moored at Trinity Landing. The 37-foot boat, over 70 years old, had set out from Chichester.
