Three contenders for Ventnor seat

A third political challenger is bringing a ray of hope that he will take the Isle of Wight Council seat for Ventnor & St Lawrence, after a vacancy was created by the resignation of Conservative, Gary Peace, in October.

Ray Harrington-Vail, an experienced community and environmental activist is standing for the Liberal Democrats in the by-election being held on December 21. Ray is a director of Wight Community Energy solar farm and, for 21 years, led the Footprint Trust. He set up the charity after being shocked at the levels of poverty he saw on the Island when he moved here more than 25 years ago.

He said: “My reason for joining and standing for the LibDems is that they have a genuine vision for the Isle of Wight. They balance the interests of the economy, the environment and the community, seeking a fair deal for ordinary people.”

He joins previously announced candidates, Ventnor’s mayor, Steve Cooper for Labour and Ed Blake for the Conservatives.
