Six Ryde Harriers travelled to compete in the Fleet Half Marathon, which was acting as a selection race to compete for England in the International Master’s Half, to be staged in Swansea on June 8.
Selection is based on running a qualifying time and finishing in the top three in the 5 age categories.
Dave Hunt, Carly Scoble and Pete Young all achieved the required criteria, so will proudly represent England.
Dave, competing in the M40-44 category, ran a personal best of 1h 11m 4s to finish 13th overall, and 3rd in his age group, from the 3.000 starters.
After just missing England selection in the recent Farnborough Half, Carly Scoble made up for this by running another personal best of 1h 22m 48s. Like Dave, Carly also finished 3rd to gain selection. She was 12th lady overall.
Evergreen, Pete Young, also gained selection by winning his 75-79 category in 1hr 44m 16s, with the second placer being more than 10 minutes behind.
The other three Harriers, Gary Marshall, Simon Newman and men’s captain, Trevor McAlister, also achieved personal best times.
