The Force is strong for the Star Wars event of the year

Planning continues apace for the WightFibre Charity Premier release of Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker at Cineworld in Newport on December 19, the third such event in support of Island charity UKSA.

Almost 300 VIP guests will attend the screening of this latest blockbuster with an opportunity to meet and be photographed with characters from the films and the cinema foyer transformed into a set of Tatooine.

John Irvine, CEO of WightFibre said: “Once again, this promises to be a great fun evening. Our aim is to raise even more than before to support the important work of UKSA and in turn children from across the Island.”

Exclusive lots have also been announced for the charity auction being held on the evening. Expected to draw much attention is a ‘Medal of Yarin’ with corresponding film cells from Star Wars IV: A New Hope (1977). Actor and producer Nick Joseph, who played Major Arhul Hextrophon will present the winning bidder with the medal.

A framed photograph of Darth Vader signed ‘Dave Prowse is Darth Vader’ will also go under the hammer. Original, authenticated items signed by him are in high demand.

Ben Willows, UKSA CEO, said: “UKSA are delighted once again to be the beneficiary of WightFibre’s Star Wars Premier. All monies raised go towards our Test the Water programme which provides all Year 6 children on the Isle of Wight the chance to come and experience the activities we provide at UKSA. Since 2014 over 6,000 Island students have taken part. We have worked with WightFibre for many years and are grateful to be a beneficiary once again.”

Competitions will be running over the coming weeks, giving lucky winners a chance to be at this exclusive VIP event including in your IW Observer on November 22. Full details are on wightfibre.com.

An allocation of tickets will be sold through the WightFibre website from Monday, November 11 allowing Star Wars fans the opportunity to attend the VIP event.
