Ventnor driving to 143 run victory

Summer sun saw superb scoring at Steephill, with Shanklin and Ventnor II also securing Hampshire success, Also on the Island, Newport scored runs in the sun.

Hampshire and Premier Leagues

Ventnor won their Southern Premier Division One home match against Andover by 143 runs, scoring 268-6. Opener Dineth Thimodya hit 120, Dan Cox 46, and Henry Edwards and Sam Mills shared an unbroken partnership of 71. Bowler, George Watts, took 5-26 and Dan Cox 4-29, as Ventnor skittled out the visitors for 125 in the 30th over.

In Hants Division One, Ryde lost by 7 wickets away at East Woodhay, after being bowled out for 225, with knocks from Kerry Rice (42), Ben Shannon (49) and Andy Day (51). The Islanders couldn’t stop East Woodhay’s middle order reaching the target and losing only 3 wickets and with 3 overs in hand.

In Division Three, leaders Shanklin & Godshill won by 8 wickets away at Southampton Community CC, with Matt Lambourne (2-40) and Nathan Moore (2-4) limiting Southampton to 146 in their 35 overs. In reply, Harry Collier’s unbeaten 53, along with opener, Olly Niemiec’s, 38 not out, saw the Islanders home in the 32nd over with the loss of 2 wickets.

Ventnor II XI won by 125 runs away at Bedhampton Mariners, scoring 176-4 including 52 from Neil Westhorpe, and 41 from opener, Mark Fletcher. The Islanders saw Sam Read and Archie Lucy taking 3 wickets apiece to secure victory.

Island Leagues

Newport beat Northwood by 106 runs, after scoring 208-6, including half-centuries for opener, Grant Richardson, and Harry Dye, with Gary Cooper taking 4-42 for Northwood. In reply, John Jones top scored with 24 for Northwood as they were all out for 102 in the 31st over, with Adam Wilson taking 3-8.

Ventnor III XI won by 7 wickets away at Shanklin & Godshill II XI, with Shanklin’s Dorian Cobb’s 31 helping the Westhill side score 119-9, and Ventnor’s Harrison McQuillan taking 3-27. The unbroken partnership between Michael Compton (42) and skipper, Jake Toulson, saw Ventnor reach their target for the loss of 3 wickets in the 24th over.

In Division Two, Ventnor IV XI lost to Newport II XI, scoring 81 all out, with Ben Fry top scoring with 24. Sam Blaize and Ellis Hinkley took 3 wickets each for Newport. Olly Pease (25 not out) and Drew Oxlade (24) helped Newport reach 84-3 in the 19th over.


Third-placed Ventnor visit Portsmouth, Ryde host Ferndown Wayfarers, Shanklin & Godshill are at home to Bedhampton,

Ventnor II welcome Locks Heath and Division Four leaders, Ryde II XI, travel to Burridge.

On the Island Senior Cup fixtures include Newport at home to Freshwater, Northwood welcoming Shanklin & Godshill, and St Helens play Ventnor III, with Shanklin III at home to Newport II in the Fred Winter Cup.
