Tapnell Farm Park has announced that its loveable Wallaby, Bear, has passed away.

A spokesman confirmed yesterday (Thursday): “After recently becoming unwell, and following advice from the vet, it was decided it was the kindest thing to let him rest.

“Bear joined us in 2016 from Seaview Wildlife Encounter, when it sadly closed and many of the animals were re-homed here at Tapnell Farm Park. He quickly became a huge part of the Tapnell family, and a familiar face to so many of you who have visited over the years.”

One of Tapnell’s head keepers, Lucy, added: “Bear was such a firm favourite with many of our visitors, adored by the keepers and the team, and hand-reared at his previous home, even going home with keepers to be bottle-fed and carried around in a backpack!

“He absolutely loved people and belly rubs, without a doubt anyone who ever fed the wallabies would know of him as he’s always first for the food! He brought so much joy to everyone and will be deeply missed.”
