On Saturday, Nathan White, who attends the special school St Catherine’s in Ventnor became one of the youngest people to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth after turning 14, the minimum age, only last month.

Nathan, along with his teacher, Andy Gibbins, signed up for the challenge to help raise funds for the school, a registered charity that supports children and young people with severe and lifelong speech, language and communication needs.

Neither showed any sign of nerves prior to the descent, although Nathan’s mother, who was waiting at the base of the tower, was slightly anxious at the sight of her son dangling 100m up on a single rope. Between the pair they have so far brought in over £500 for the charity.
Nathan is close to hitting his fundraising target and anyone who would like to support him can do so at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/NathanWhite2021.
