Wight Tri held the second event of its winter duathlon series on Sunday, with thirty athletes taking part in a challenging run–bike–run course at Carisbrooke.
Competitors completed either one or two laps of the run route, around the castle area, finishing with a steep climb, before heading out on the bike leg. The course included a fast descent into Carisbrooke, a climb towards Shorwell and a tough headwind section on the return through Billingham.
The nominated time competition saw Kellie Carmichael finish 32 seconds outside her prediction, with Jack Elton-Walter 31 seconds off his. Sean Williams was closest, within 15 seconds, to take the accuracy title.
Craig Wilson was fastest overall on the long bike/long course in 1h 18m 6s. On the short bike/short course, Dean Pike recorded 58m 48s, with newcomer, Jade Davies, the fastest woman in 1h 7m 4s.
There was a light-hearted moment after the finish, when one participant accidentally drove off after leaning their bike against their van, and the post-race bake-off was won by Steve Dines.
The next event in the series is scheduled for December 7, Strawberry Pain.
