Stolen baby chameleon returned to pet store

A stolen baby chameleon has been returned to its owners at a pet store.

Wight Vipers in High Street, Ryde took to Facebook to announce the return of the infant reptile on Friday (August 31).

The lizard has been missing for 48 hours since August 29 and had apparently been kept in a “tiny filthy box” where it was bitten by crickets.

Kirsty from Wight Vipers posted on Facebook: “He needs to rest overnight and then we’ll evaluate him properly.

“We’ll post more details in the morning, but he was being kept in a tiny filthy box with crickets bigger than his head biting him, he smells bad and obviously isn’t too happy.”

Kirsty thanks everyone who helped to share their post and CCTV image of a male suspect.

Hampshire Constabulary have said a 52-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of theft and remains in custody.
