Dear Editor,
I totally agree with A. Saunders (Soapbox, Sept 19) and am disgusted to hear about the unlimited taxi fares, the £2,000 gift given to murderers, rapists and thieves to return to Romania. All from our taxpayers’ money. Also, the hotel bills of around £5 1/2 million a day are unjustified – when we have people dying here because the NHS cannot afford the medication they need. No wonder people are flying the flags in protest – good on them. Everybody is just so frustrated and cross.
I know that Trump says some stupid things, but he is right that immigration is killing this country from within and that we should turn the boats around before they reach our shores. They are mostly full of men that are no good to us – and if fleeing from a war-torn country they should stay and fight like our men did against Hitler. We kept him out but have let worse people in. What happened to the rule that asylum seekers stay in the first safe country they reach?
I am 80 years old, and fear for my grandchildren and great grandkids. What have these governments done to our country? We are not Great Britain anymore; let’s hope that Nigel gets in soon – he can’t do any worse!
Thank goodness for the IW Observer, where I can let off steam!
Mrs Docking, Shanklin
