Dear Editor,
The world seems obsessed with Jews. I don’t understand why.
The Jewish right to the land of Israel was recognised in the treaty of Lausanne in 1922 when Britain was given the responsibility to establish a Jewish homeland in the area then known as Palestine.
After WWII, the state of Israel was established. The Jews could at long last be safe.
On October 7, 2023, about 7,000 terrorists from Gaza killed 1,200 Jews in the most barbaric way. From the cameras of the captured terrorists, the Israeli Defense Force has made a 47-minute recording – all who watch it are left speechless and traumatised.
We have just celebrated 80 years since VE Day in 1945. “Never again!” was the cry. But the October 7 attack has been followed by the worst antisemitism since the last war. It manifests itself in a new way: anti-Israel. But the same spirit is behind it, so we have the endless pro-Hamas marches and flag-waving.
Israel is a sovereign nation, the only democracy in the Middle East with Arabs in its parliament. Israel shares the same liberal values as the West – the exact opposite to those held by the Palestinians and every survey shows that most Palestinians support Hamas and are proud of October 7.
The relentless bias of the BBC and other channels contribute to this state of affairs, totally blind to the fact that all the news from Gaza is vetted by Hamas and we know they use civilians including children as human shields especially near schools and hospitals.
Israelis offered a king’s ransom to whoever in Gaza would help them locate the hostages. Not one person has taken up the offer.
History repeats itself and we never learn.
