Spring Show is well supported with more than 200 exhibits

Despite such a difficult start to the growing season, around 220 exhibits were displayed at the Niton & Whitwell Horticultural Society spring show, at Niton Village Hall on Saturday.

There were entries in various classes of horticulture, cookery, floral art, photography and children’s displays.

The independent judges all commented on the high standard of the exhibits, and the show was well supported with a steady stream of people, many of whom stayed for the presentation of the awards.

The children’s classes drew much attention such was the quality of their exhibits, and some children entered the main classes, which bodes well for the future.

Main award winners for individual classes, based on most points: Twining Centenary Cup (Horticulture) – Lucy Dabell, Eileen Pattison Memorial Salver (Floral Art) – Mary McCallum, Mary Edmondson Salver (Cookery) – Rose Burnett, Handicraft Trophy – Freya Flower, Sophie Ruth Larner Memorial Rose Bowl (Children) – Noah Walker-Green, Alfred Coombes Memorial Cup (Photographic) – Pauline Hooley.
