Division One

Ryde A 7 v Havenstreet A 3, Newport Vics B 2 v Ryde C 8, Ryde Rankers 10 v Ryde Goshawks 0, Ryde B 9 v Newport Vics A 1

League leaders, Ryde C, dropped 2 points against struggling Newport Vics B, with Vics’ Rob Warren and Barry Joyce both winning against Ryde’s Joe Chapman. The match ended 8-2 to Ryde.

Second-placed Ryde Rankers won 10-0 against Ryde Goshawks, who were a player short. The Rankers’ Lewis Johnstone got the better of his dad, Martin, after a five-set struggle. The Rankers are 17 points behind Ryde C with a game in hand.

Third-placed Ryde B had an easy win against Newport Vics A.

Division Two

Havenstreet B 9 v Shorwell Spinners 1, Newport Vics D 6 v Ryde Quintet 4, Ryde Detonators 8 v Ryde Rockets 2, Ryde Rascals 1 v Ryde Revellers 9, Ryde Rising Stars 6 v Newport Vics C 4.

Division Two leaders, Ryde Revellers, had a decisive 9-1 win against Ryde Rascals. The Revellers’ Nicky Dando and Spike Hughes were unbeaten, whilst team-mate, Dave Batten, lost only one against the Rascals’ Peter Clarke.

The Detonators also had an easy win against Ryde Rockets, although the Rockets’ Tim Wakeley won twice against Trevor Jones and Bernie Forward. The match ended 8-2 to the Detonators, who are now 11 points behind the Revellers.

Havenstreet B, in third place, are still contenders for the top spot, after a 9-1 win against Shorwell Spinners.

Division Three

St Lawrence Lizards beat Ryde Rustics by 7-3, and moved within a point of Wroxall Warriors, who lead the table.

Handicapped Singles

The Handicapped Singles was held on Friday, with 34 entrants of all ages and standards playing a total of 234 games in a handicapped format.

In the semi-finals, top Island player, Alex Rorke, met Paul Cates from the third division. The other semi-final was an all first division meeting between Tom Johnson and Bryce Wilson.

After two close games, the final will see Alex Rorke take on Tom Johnson on April 30. The event is sponsored by Island Echo.
