Second marathon for Ryde firefighter

Ryde Firefighter Mark Grimes completed his second of the three London Marathons he has attempted, crossing the finish line in three hours, 27 minutes. He was running for the Wight Brainy Bunch, the charity he founded with his wife Kathryn following his diagnosis of a brain tumour in 2015.

Mark failed to finish his 2016 attempt, just a year following surgery, when he collapsed at mile 23 of the 26.2 mile iconic course. He went on to finish his 2017 race in under three hours, raising money and awareness for the Brain Tumour Charity, which secured him a place in the good for age category.

Having also secured a small charity ballot place for The Wight Brainy Bunch, Mark was joined by Colin Richardson (IW College), and they both proudly represented the Island charity, who provide essential emotional support and financial assistance to local families affected by brain tumours.

This was Colin’s first Marathon which he finished in 5hrs 18m and raised just under £3,000 for the charity. To donate, please visit: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ColinRichardson11
