Nominations have opened for the 2025 Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Awards, giving Islanders the chance to recognise their local sporting stars.
The awards celebrate individual athletes and teams, and the volunteers who support them, from long-standing stalwarts to young sportspeople achieving success. This year’s qualification period has been adjusted to broadly match the school year, with nominations open until October 31.
The headline sponsor is WRS. Sophie Jackson, chief operations officer, said the company was delighted to be involved: “We have an incredible amount of talented sportspeople on the Island, and the awards really showcase that. They are a celebration of all that’s great in sport on the Island.”
The event is being organised by IW Sports Achievement Awards Ltd, a new not-for-profit company set up following the separation from the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation (IWSF). The awards will continue to recognise sporting achievement, with any surplus funds donated to the IWSF’s grant scheme.
Claire Beasley, chairman of the new company, said she hoped the new timetable would encourage more entries from schools. “We would really love to receive more nominations from secondary schools in particular,” she added.
The 2025 awards will be for all sport – adults, youth and disability sport. To nominate a person or team for the awards, visit iw.observer/sports-achievement. Updates are available on Instagram and Facebook at @iw_sports_achievement_awards.
