Sci-fi stars shine at charity event

The cosplayers show off their fantasy costumes

Former Doctor Who actor, Paul McGann, was the star of the show, as the charity Fan TC Con came to 1Leisure Medina, Newport, on Saturday.

Paul was joined by ‘background actor’ Clem So, who has appeared in dozens of films and TV shows, including Doctor Who, James Bond movies, and Master of the Universe.

Brian Mear, the sculptor who designed Darth Vadar’s helmet in Star Wars, and has also worked on the Harry Potter series and Never Ending Story, was also there to give his support.

Organiser, Roy Spearman, said: “Despite the weather, we had a wonderful day with a big crowd of around 250 people attending; it really was magical.

“We had lots of people in cosplay, including the Joker Squad, who dressed up as a variety of fantasy characters, with around 30 taking part in a competition. They were great with the way they interacted with the audience.

“As well as Paul, we had a Tardis along with a time machine console, which people could operate. There was also a ‘Nerve Range’ game, which people could play to defend Earth from invading marauders, and a K-Pop RPD which plays hit songs which all have a dance routine to them and people can join in.”

The event raised money for the Isle of Wight MS Society.
