Sarah Holmes’ Osborne Horse Trial results for day one

Island’s only rider has brilliant first day at Osborne Horse Trials.

Sarah Holmes, 27, an event rider from Rookley, has placed sixth in her section at the eventing competition in East Cowes.

The Osborne House event on Wednesday (July 25) was a scorcher, but that didn’t stop Island rider and her horse, Dunganstown Fleur, from coming ninth in the dressage event earlier in the day.

She then went clear in the show jumping event on another horse before finishing the day strongly in the cross country event on “pocket rocket” Dunganstown Fleur.

World number one rider Oliver Townend came first riding Black Tie II.

Miss Holmes will return to Osborne House on Thursday (July 26) riding Lowhill Clover, in the Grand Prix event.

She previously commented: “I’m taking Lowhill Clover who is one I brought from Goresbridge, Ireland as an unbroken three-year-old, or my grandad did for me, he is now 16, so I’ve done everything with him. He has competed in Blenheim before so it will be a nice run for him.”
