Sandown helicopter incident sees Cowes stabbing arrest made

Arrest made following Cowes stabbing after police helicopter deployed. 

A 23 year-old man from Carisbrooke has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The police helicopter was spotted over Sandown on Tuesday night at around 8.50pm.

Officers on the ground and in the air were investigating a serious assault which took place in Cowes in the early hours of Tuesday (July 24).

At around 12.30am on July 24, police received a report that an 18-year-old man had suffered two stab wounds to the back in the area around Love Lane and Windmill Close.

The evening of July 24 saw police officers search for a suspect in Sandown using several vehicles and a the police helicopter.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman confirmed the connection between the two incidents.

He said: “The man, from Cowes, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment where his injuries have been described as not life-threatening. He remains in hospital at this time.

“As part of our enquiries a 23-year-old man from Carisbrooke has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody at this time.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
