Sandown residents celebrates green town success

Over 100 Sandown Residents attended a consultation meeting organised by Sandown Town Council, at the Broadway Centre on Monday 20th January 2020, and discussed the key priorities for the forthcoming Town Budget.

Town Mayor Gary Young said ‘It was a very constructive meeting, and we welcomed the comments and contributions from local community groups and individuals’.

Local Councillors updated residents on current planning issues, and members prioritised future investment in new Toilets at Eastern Gardens, freeing up additional resources for local voluntary groups, and making provision to maintain the standard of equipment in the Steven Jenkins Playground at Sandham.

Cllr Young added ‘Sandown has limited resources with increasing pressures placed upon it, and are aware that the number one priority is Eastern Gardens Toilets, with potential to charge and have a contactless payment system – we will press ahead with this once the Budget has been approved’.

The meeting also saw Sandown Green Towns present the Mayor with the South East England in Bloom Silver Gilt Award in recognition of the Town’s success in these prestigious awards.

Cllr Young concluded ‘The Town Council would like to thank all those that attended, and we plan further consultation before the Budget meeting on 24th February at the Broadway Centre’.
