Junior crews from Ryde Rowing Club competed in Itchen Imperial Rowing Club’s Junior Regatta on Saturday, over a short 450-metre (1476ft) course on the River Itchen in Southampton.
Racing was mainly in river boats over a straight course, with no racing turn, across various categories and boat types for boys and girls aged 12 to 16. The regatta featured three-boat racing, with many events involving heats.
Ryde had only a few crews and scullers competing this year.
Ryde’s three open boys river J-16 scullers – Joe Bird, Max Locke, and Cameron D’Arcy – all finished second in their respective heats,.
The open boys river J-16 double scull of Max Locke and Cameron D’Arcy was impeded by the home club, Itchen, at the start. Ryde protested, but this was not upheld, with the crew finishing third in their heat.
Rosie Morris, competing in the girls J-12/13 Single Scull, also had an issue at the start, where she was impeded. The resulting protest was again not upheld, with Rosie finishing third in her heat.
In the open boys J-14 river double, Ryde’s Harry Watts paired with Shanklin’s Louie Laider-Jones, finished second in their final. Harry also competed in the open J-15 coastal quad alongside Shanklin’s Andri Loboda, Evan Black, and Louie Laider-Jones, coxed by Jane Denby-Roach. The composite crew finished second in their final.
Ryde also coxed Newport’s boys open J-16 river four.
