Ryde Inshore Rescue abandon crew’s birthday party to save lives

Rescue volunteers abandon crewman’s birthday celebration to save two men.

During a crew member’s 20th birthday celebrations on Monday (August 6) at around 8.20pm, volunteers from Ryde Inshore Rescue received a call to rescue a stranded dinghy.

The 15ft dinghy was 1.5 miles north east of Ryde Pier with no wind and engine failure.

The crew left their meals and family behind at Appley Manor and got to work.

Their vessel RR1 located the two men adrift in the dinghy and towed them for 50 minutes before returning to base via Gosport for fuel.

All crew left the station at 11pm.

Ryde Inshore Rescue posted to Faceboook: “We would like to firstly apologise to fellow diners as we all ran out of the restaurant, and secondly like to thank the Appley Manor for reheating and replacing some of our meals that a couple of the shore crew managed to get back to…. Unlike to boat crew.”
