RNLI crews were in action last week, with Cowes RNLI going to the rescue of a man whose plan for a short sea trip suddenly ended when his RIB took on water as a result of engine failure on Thursday.
The lifeboat launched at 5pm to rendezvous with the RIB, west of the Beaulieu River entrance.
Although the lifeboat took with them the station’s pump, the crew found that the RIB’s own pump was sufficient to empty the boat. All that was left for the lifeboat to do was to carry out an alongside tow, eventually delivering the RIB to East Cowes Marina.
The following evening, Bembridge were alerted to a passenger, with appendicitis symptoms, on the Regal Princess cruise ship just off Ryde. The crew transported the casualty to the Camber, Portsmouth, where an ambulance was waiting for onward assistance.
