An evening celebrating the life and legacy of Scottish singer-songwriter, Frankie Miller, who appeared with his band, Howl, at the historic 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, was held at Dimbola Museum & Galleries, Freshwater Bay, last Saturday.
It brought together friends, musicians, and admirers to hear an ‘In Conversation’ between his long-time friend and biographer, Davy Arthur, and artist and sculptor, Guy Portelli, and to hear Frankie’s music played and sung by Dick Taylor and Jo Larcombe.
Frankie’s career was cut tragically short when he suffered a brain haemorrhage in 1994, but his reputation as a singer and songwriter has endured.
Dr Brian Hinton, executive chairman of Dimbola, said: “Frankie’s time in the spotlight was brief but explosive. He was one of the greatest soul singers of his generation. His legacy shines bright, and it was a privilege for Dimbola to host an evening celebrating his extraordinary life and music.”
