Newport crew

Island Rowers enjoyed a weekend of success on the 1800m courses at Southampton and Woolston, including Ryde’s Isaac Gibson winning the Men’s Novice Sculls in a closely contested competition.

Newport’s J16 mixed quad of cox Chris Clarke, Fiona Brookes, Freddie Hollis, River Szawiel and Lottie Pettitt (Shanklin) won the first race of the weekend. This was followed by success in the final of the Junior Status Open four race with cox of the day Mariana Hare steering the crew of Boris Hare, Connor Garner, Nathaniel Hamilton and Eric Williams to success winning by by a length.

The Open Novice crew of cox Fiona Brookes and crew Freddie Hollis, Max Gasper, Riv Szawiel and Vlad Ignatenko secured victory and gained promotion to junior status.

Shanklin also enjoyed International success with Daisy Faithfull enjoy a gold medal representing Great Britain in the World University Games, in Germany, with success in the 8’s.
