This week’s image is of a mammatus cloud formation taken by Lynda Chandler of Newtown.
Mammatus (also called mamma or mammatocumulus) clouds are some of the most unusual and distinctive cloud formations with a series of bulges or pouches emerging from the base of a cloud. The name is derived from the Latin mamma, meaning mammary or breast.
