Parish council seeks garden waste tippers

Freshwater Parish Council is asking for people to report garden waste tippers after a spate of recent incidents.

A council spokesman said: “We’ve been dealing with multiple incidents of fly tipping of garden/tree waste at Stroud Coppice and Longhalves Lane which is frustrating, to say the least, when Afton Marsh Recycling Centre is but a 30-second drive away.

“We appreciate that it’s the time of year to start prepping the garden and it may feel fairly harmless to leave a bit of green waste about. But it’s the thin end of the wedge isn’t it?
“We’re managing Stroud Coppice so that it becomes a haven for insects and other wildlife and it’s a beautiful place to have a little potter through. It would be great to keep it that way.
“Please let us know if you see this going on.”
