Isle of Wight Pride has issued a safety warning after reports of people being lured to remote locations and “having money taken from them”.

The gay dating app, Grindr is allegedly being used to meet up with Island visitors before money is taken from them.

Hampshire Constabulary are unable to confirm the incidents as no specific time, date or location information has been released about the alleged thefts.

IW Pride said in a Facebook post: “Some of the younger population on the Island are using Grindr to target people.

“They are attempting to meet up with people and then taking money from them once they meet them in a remote location.

“This has been reported to the police.

“Please stay safe this weekend – let friends know where you are. If you are meeting someone you do not know, let your friends know and try to meet in a busy public place.”

IW Pride have been approached for comment.
