An 80-year-old Ryde woman is in despair, after huge trees have ruined her garden after years without being cut back.
Diane Lang, of Ashey Road, said she has lived in her property for 14 years but her many pleas have not been addressed.
She said: “I live behind the playing field at Ashey Primary School, and asked them if they could cut the main two trees back but was told they couldn’t afford it. Many years ago, my son and I clubbed together and managed to get them cut back, but, since then, they have just grown and grown and I think they must now be four storeys high.
“They tower over my garden, and I then found out that the IW Council were responsible for them. So I contacted them but to no avail. At one point, a message was left on my phone with someone from gardening saying they would contact me again, but nothing happened.
“I have tried and tried but I can’t seem to get anywhere. Not long ago, I saw some trees further up the road being cut back and I thought I would be next, but, again, nothing ever happened.
“I try to keep my garden looking lovely, but I have two acer’s which are being overshadowed and they are dying. The trees also deposit seeds everywhere which I have to pick up, otherwise they will sprout.”
An IW Council spokesman said: “The Isle of Wight Council is aware of the concerns raised and is investigating the matter. We are working with the school following its reopening after the summer holidays to better understand the circumstances and determine any necessary next steps.”
