Rotary on the Wight recently hosted its 14th annual party on the Green at Eastern Gardens, Ryde, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rotary in Ryde. Members marked the occasion in 1920s style, and the event once again enjoyed excellent summer weather.
The day offered a full programme of entertainment for all ages. Performances included a Disney-inspired song and dance show, the Oyster Girls Morris Dancers, singer-guitarist, Annie Horton, the Boogie Woogie Sisters, and Bembridge Ukulele Band. To close the afternoon, popular group The Tuesdays entertained the crowd with a lively set of familiar hits.
Away from the main stage, visitors enjoyed a variety of sideshows, while Rotary members ran the busy tea tent and barbecue. Adding to the atmosphere, Rotarian James Harwood acted as D.J. throughout the day, linking acts and keeping the programme flowing smoothly.
In total, the event raised about £1,300 to support local good causes. The Party on the Green once again proved to be a genuine community event, bringing together residents, visitors, and volunteers in a spirit of friendship and celebration.
Rotary on the Wight has marked its centenary in style, and looks forward to continuing the tradition for many more years.
