The owners of Cowes’ fish and chip shop, Corries Cabin, were so delighted with the date of the King’s Coronation they donated the day’s profits to charity.
May 6 this year was the 20th anniversary of Richard and Leah Quigley taking over their popular chippie, and they also offered a free sausage to anybody who arrived dressed as King Charles on Saturday’s ‘Corrie’nation’ Day.
“We didn’t want him to make such a national fuss of our 20th anniversary, but we couldn’t really say no,” said Leah with a smile.
“A year and nine days after taking on the shop, we had a fire that gutted the place, and we were closed for six weeks. The response from the community was incredible; without them, we may not have made it to 20 years, so we like to make sure we give back when we can,” added Richard. “Despite the weather, it was a busy day, though sadly no one dressed up for the offer of a free sausage.”
The couple topped up the profits from the day so that £1,000 was donated to charity, split equally between the IW Foodbank and Pan Together.
