It seems likely that a new group of Isle of Wight councillors is to be set up in the coming days.
Cllr John Medland, the representative for Freshwater South, confirmed he has left the Alliance Group which runs the Isle of Wight Council. He said: “This is not about any group or party issues, I am just unhappy with the way in which the IW Council’s business is conducted in the council chamber more generally. He added that he very much admired the way in which council leader, Cllr Lora Peacey Wilcox had handled “a very difficult job”, and that he would support her continuing as leader.
Three other councillors are believed to be considering joining a new “Middle or Central” group.
It follows Cllr Peter Spink leaving the Conservative Group and Cllr Michael Lilley joining the Liberal Democrats over recent days.
The Annual General Meeting of the Isle of Wight Council takes place next Wednesday.
