The IW Foodbank has received food donations and £340 from a concert by the Newchurch Male Voice Choir with special guest, soprano Lucy Hinkley.
The event took place at Christ Church, Sandown, on Saturday, September 6, with audience members donating food as an entry fee before enjoying an evening of music.
The choir performed a varied programme, including The Lost Chord and Morte Cristie, accompanied by Alan Finch on the church organ. Lucy sang a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan songs, as well as numbers from musicals, while a surprise highlight came with a duet between Alan Finch and Richard Knowles, performing Music of the Night, from The Phantom of the Opera.
Heather Bentley, accompanist for the choir and a volunteer at The Bay Foodbank, addressed the audience about the foodbank’s work, now based at Lake Methodist Church, and explained that an increasing number of Islanders need their support.
Choir member, Bob Cooper, said it was a pleasure to support groups providing much-needed services to the community, adding that the generosity of the audience had added to that support.
The Newchurch Male Voice Choir continues to perform across the Island, and recordings of some of their songs can be found at iw.observer/newchurch-male-choir.
