Mud rescue on Tuesday

A multi-agency operation took place to rescue two women stuck in mud between Fort Albert and Colwell at 6.30pm on Tuesday evening (March 16).

HM Coastguard teams from The Needles and Ventnor worked alongside fire crews from Newport and Freshwater, the Co-Responder and Ambulance service.
One was stuck in the mud close to shore but managed to get herself out. However, they became trapped again and unable to move across the wet mud without getting stuck again.
The coastguard created a platform with sledge stretchers to assist them out of danger. They were both unharmed and the incident was declared over within an hour.
