A memorial to honour the animals who died in World War One has been unveiled. It was designed by students from the Bay CE school in Sandown, and the wooden structure features a horse and also depicts other animals who died during the conflict.

It was created by Island chainsaw artist Paul Sivell and is situated in the grounds of Sandown Broadway Centre.

The unveiling of the statue was attended by Isle of Wight High Sheriff Geoff Underwood and other local dignitaries. The statue is part of the Battlefields to Butterflies project and can be seen by everyone driving or walking along the Broadway. Pupils also planted seeds at Osborne House to recreate the battleground site.
