Megan makes her dance debut

Local teenager Megan Hopkins, 15 of Shanklin made her National dance competition debut on Saturday (Sept 14), at Wembley’s Irish Dance Championships.

The local dancer certainly made an impression, returning home to the Island with six top awards, including five 1st places. She was joined at the Celtic contest by dance friend Mackenzie Davis, 15 of Ashey, who took five awards including two 1st places and youngster Annabelle Acutt, 10, of Brading, who took three awards including a 3rd place.

The podium hitting Irish dance trio all train in Brading, with local dance champ Roisin Mullins, who formerly toured with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance. The London contest hosted by worldwide dance body An Coimisiun, attracted thousands of dance hopefuls, but it was Island dance girls that took home the gold.

Megan Makes her Dance Debut Dance Coach Roisin said of the girls’ success: “I am amazed at Megan’s big win, after less then one year of training, and at her first National competition. She excels at dance and at school. Along-side Mackenzie and Annabelle, Megan has made the whole Island proud. We are celebrating and look forward to welcoming new local youngsters for the 2019-2020 dance season.”
