A man in his 40s has died after being pulled from the water off Ventnor Esplanade on Friday around 1pm.
Police were called after concerns for the welfare of a man who was struggling in the water and a spokesman confirmed: “Despite the efforts of emergency services, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead.
“His next of kin have been made aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Bembridge RNLI and Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams attended, along with the ambulance and air ambulance.
