Major route into Cowes to be improved

A section of one of the main roads into Cowes is to be resurfaced by Island Roads shortly

The work on Newport Road between Three Gates Road roundabout and the northern Mill Hill Road junction is to be completed overnight in order to reduce disruption.

The project is due to begin on June 26 and last six nights. Residents will receive letters explaining details of the work and how it will affect them. While the road will be closed to traffic during the work hours of 7.30pm and 6am, pedestrian access will be maintained as long as it is safe to do so. There will be no work at weekends.

The diversion will be via Mill Hill Road, Victoria Road, Park Road, Place Road, Nodes Road and Three Gates Road.

Island Roads construction manager Keith Gourlay said: “This is a busy road into the town and those who use it will know that it is in need of an upgrade.

“We hope that the long-term improvements we will deliver to this section will more than offset any short-term localised disruption. As always though, we would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”
