Lord-Lieutenant’s awards evening

Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Maurice Sheen, welcomed the Island’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Susie Sheldon, to the recent Isle of Wight Awards ceremony held at the Royal Yacht Squadron.

A fanfare was provided by members of the 3rd Battalion, Princess of Wales Regiment, with Mrs Sheldon presenting the British Empire Medal (BEM) to sea cadet volunteer, Margaret Beacham, Seaview sailor and community shop volunteer, Diane Foxley and IW library services manager, Rob Jones.

His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant also introduced four new Deputy Lieutenants, Didi Nicholson, a champion for education and careers of Island youth, Jonathan Nainby-Luxmoore, the driving force behind the 500-strong boat ensemble for the fleet review, former High Sheriff, Geoff Underwood, and bay volunteer, Richard Priest.

Clive ‘Spiney’ Norman was awarded a certificate of recognition and lance-corporal, Jane Day of IW Troop 266, the best reservist award. Petty officer, Annabel Boag, able cadet, Alicia Davison and cadet corporal, Jessica Atkins, were appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets for the forthcoming year.

Deputy governor of HMP Isle of Wight, Steve Philips, presented long service awards to Philip Edwards, Andrew Lord, David McDade and Matthew McGookin.

Dr Nikki Turner, of the IW NHS Trust, presented NHS awards to Christa Dilleyston, Lorraine Brooke and Jonnel Lutong. Acting IW superintendent, Alex Charge, presented PC Andrew Buchanan an exemplary service award. Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards were presented to Theo Williams, Daisy Turner, Sanjay Kakuria, Than Cass, Kristie Bufton, Jessica Atkins and Emma Abitt.
