Wilks Price Hounslow Solicitors has announced its expansion into Ventnor, with owner, Gabriella Coughi, confirming the acquisition of the former Hursts building at 4 High Street.
The new office is expected to open in early November, offering conveyancing, family law, wills, lasting powers of attorney and probate services, to Ventnor and the South Wight.
Gabriella plans to restore as many original features of the 1840s building as possible, including exposing the brass and timber shop-front, reinstating interior wood panelling, and retaining the historic Hursts signage. Her intention, she says, is to honour a landmark building while creating a welcoming office and shop space. Gabriella hopes the self-contained shop area will become an affordable space for community activities, meetings, and coffee mornings.
Speculation has been circulating locally since renovation work began in May, and confirmation that the building will house a solicitors’ firm has been warmly received.
The Ventnor expansion follows several new appointments at the Ryde office earlier this year. Joni Ade, who previously worked for the firm between 2004 and 2006, has returned as practice manager. Paula Griffiths has joined the conveyancing department as a paralegal, while Lora Coombes now supports the family team in a similar role. “Expanding the team has given us the extra capacity to meet clients’ needs with greater flexibility,” Gabriella said. “It’s also given me renewed inspiration for further growth.”
The firm’s history stretches back to 1894, with its Isle of Wight presence beginning in 1977 under the name Sherwin Oliver, later Sherwin Price Hounslow, and now Wilks Price Hounslow.
