There was originally no reports of injuries but following an investigation on Thursday morning (December 13), Police confirmed one person was found dead inside the property.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called by our colleagues from the Isle of Wight Fire Service to reports of a fire at a residential property on Porchfield Road shortly before 8:40pm on Wednesday, December 12.

“A body was found inside the property. We are still in the process of contacting next of kin.

“Investigations at the address are ongoing but at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Fire crews started to stand down from the incident at around 11pm but at least one appliance remained at the property to damp down the area.

Police placed a cordon around the property whilst investigations continue.
