Storeroom2010, the Island’s independent furniture re-use charity, has received a highly commended recognition in the community group category at the BBC Radio Solent ‘Make a Difference’ awards, 2025. The accolade celebrates the charity’s vital work in tackling poverty, protecting the environment, and creating employment opportunities.
Held on September 9 at Fratton Park, in Portsmouth, the awards ceremony featured over 400 nominations from across Hampshire, Dorset, and the Isle of Wight, giving strong competition for all awards.
Kerri Austin, Storeroom2010’s general manager, said: “Being nominated was an honour in itself, but to be recognised by the judges, with so many other wonderful causes also making a difference, means a great deal to everyone involved in our work.”
Storeroom2010 offers affordable furniture to families in need. By giving donated items a second life, the charity also promotes recycling and environmental stewardship. Beyond its shop, it actively combats unemployment by providing crucial training, work experience, and volunteering opportunities.
The BBC ‘Make a Difference’ awards celebrate unsung heroes who go above and beyond for their communities. The charity thanked its dedicated volunteers and supporters for their continued encouragement.
