Islanders invited to Dementia Awareness open day

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is inviting Islanders to attend a Dementia Awareness Open Day on 18th December 2018 from 10am – 4pm in the Full Circle Restaurant, St Mary’s Hospital.

The Dementia Awareness Open day will give people the opportunity to meet with Health & Social Care professionals, seek support and advice in regards to prevention and diagnosis; learn about the support available to families and how to live well with dementia.

The open day will also be the launch of the first Alzheimer’s Café being hosted within the Full Circle Restaurant from 2pm – 4.30pm and these will continue to be held every month. The Alzheimer’s Café are held for people living with dementia, family, friends, carers or for those with an interest in dementia. They are a welcoming, friendly environment offering an opportunity to talk to health and social care professionals and make new friends.

Bev Malone, Dementia Nurse Lead says “We invite all islanders to our open day; it is a good opportunity to showcase the different services available that a person with dementia may need on their journey and we are very excited to now be hosting a Alzheimer’s Café every month, the Full Circle Restaurant will be offering high tea and it’s a great way to meet other people and their families or carers and help support one another.
