Two rescued bears, from the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, are taking centre stage at a major London exhibition exploring sustainable design.
Benji and Balu are among the stars of Regenerative Design 2026, a month-long exhibition at The Building Centre in central London, showcasing the work of architects, designers, and organisations from across the UK.
Visitors are greeted by 12ft-tall images of the bears, while live webcams stream footage directly from their Island home throughout the exhibition.
The event explores how buildings and spaces can benefit nature rather than simply minimise their environmental impact.
During its third week, the exhibition focuses on biodiversity, natural materials, and sustainable design principles, reflecting the approach taken when creating Benji and Balu’s habitat.
Their enclosure was designed around their needs, providing opportunities to explore, forage, climb, dig, and swim.
Wildheart’s involvement also highlights the Island’s conservation work and sustainable development to architects, engineers, and policymakers.
Lawrence Bates, chief executive of Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, said: “Seeing Benji and Balu, and the other animals at Wildheart, welcome thousands of people in central London is a proud moment for our team and for the Isle of Wight. A great example of how the Island is leading the national conversation on living in harmony with nature and developing sustainably.”
The exhibition also offers visitors a chance to watch the bears in real time, and learn more about the sanctuary’s approach to animal welfare and conservation.
Regenerative Design 2026 continues at The Building Centre until October 30.
