Shanklin resident, and Ryde School and IW Hockey coach, Pip Spibey, has gained a place on the Hockey for Heroes Squad and, with her team-mates, will be touring the country from May 23-31.

They will be competing in a gruelling fitness programme, covering 2,029,201 metres (one for every veteran living in the UK today and equivalent to 1,261 miles), in addition to playing over a seasons worth of hockey matches (54) in just nine days.

In an exclusive interview with the IW Observer, Pip talks about the challenge, her coaching roles, and drive to inspire and enable young people to take part in sport.

Mission Peace Finder is hoping to raise awareness and vital funds to support Help for Heroes in their services to deliver life-changing support to help rebuild service personnel’s lives and continue to act as a beacon of hope for veterans.

Pip said: “I am very excited to be part of the challenge, and, with a little over a month to go, training is ramping up. Juggling being mum to twin boys, training and encouraging hockey players on the Island to be the best they can is tough, but I am confident it can be done.”
