High winds create havoc at zoo market

The Isle of Wight Zoo’s Christmas Market was cancelled on Saturday after strong winds destroyed the stalls which had been set-up for the event.

Chief Operating Officer, Lawrence Bates, said: “It’s not often I admit defeat but today, nature won!

“The Wildheart team and the local community have worked so hard to roll out this event which we hoped would add some much-needed cheer before Christmas as well as helping to fund our animals through the wintery days to come.”

The zoo’s animal team and stall holders cleared up the site which was back in action on Sunday when tickets which had been purchased for the previous day were honoured.
