Freshwater skatepark gets £500 funding boost

Frances Turan

Freshwater’s long-awaited Skatepark & Pump Track project has received a personal boost, with Parish Council Chairwoman Frances Turan donating £500 towards the fundraising appeal.

The development will feature the Island’s first pump track alongside a modern, fully inclusive skatepark. Over £224,000 has already been raised through parish support, grants, sponsorship, and community-led events. With planning permission secured last year, the team is now focused on closing the final funding gap.

Cllr Turan said: “This is about more than ramps and rails – it’s about giving young people a safe space, celebrating Freshwater’s skate legacy, and strengthening community spirit.”

Freshwater holds a special place in UK skateboarding history, with Golden Hill Fort once hosting one of Britain’s first concrete skateparks in 1978. The new facility will honour that legacy while welcoming skateboarders, scooter riders, BMXers, rollerbladers – and even wheelchair users.
