By Isle of Wight ObserverAn outreach worker has launched free breakfasts for school children at his restaurant in Newport.
The Waste Not Want Not restaurant hasn’t officially opened yet, but following a generous donation from Morrison’s, owner Trevor Blaney has decided to temporarily open the bistro and community hub from Tuesday morning (November 20).
Trevor and his volunteers had noticed a huge spike in requests for assistance following the recent rollout of Universal Credit.
His team of committed volunteers voted unanimously to do something about it and put their new premises at 67a High Street to the test.
Breakfast will be served to school children and parents from 6.45am until 9am every weekday with a choice of fruit, cereal, toast with jams and drinks while stocks last.
Trevor said: “We ask that younger children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and we cannot accommodate individuals who may have certain allergens.
“There’s no need for any child to go to school hungry!”
