Former Ventnor petrol station could become homes

The former petrol station and Central store on Victoria Street, Ventnor could become six houses.

In a planning application submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, Mr and Mrs Sampson have applied to turn the empty site into six four-bedroom townhouses in the heart of Ventnor.

The site was once home to Leslie’s Garage and the application says the operation’s fuel tanks could have contaminated land — but a report in 2010 gave the all-clear for retail use.

The report describes the site as  ‘derelict’ and ‘redundant’.

Now, an update is being prepared to support the submission, allowing for the proposed development.

A three-storey building has been proposed — demolishing the current unit — along with six parking spaces in the forecourt.

Comments can be made on the application until April 3.
