Football this week brings hat-trick heaven

The Island saw goals galore with hat-tricks for Nathan Roberts and Cian McGee (Oakfield), Josh Richardson (East Cowes Sports), Connor Coburn (Osborne Coburg), Josh Parsons (Oakfield) and Jamie Dyer (Binstead). Ryan Hill (Shanklin Res) netted 5 goals, there were red cards for Ollie Carey (West Wight Res) and Jaiden Whillier (Whitecroft & Barton Res) in their match. Vics and Newport secured Wessex wins, with Shanklin ladies also successful against mainland opposition.

Island League and Cups

In the Challenge Cup, W&B won 4-2 on penalties, after drawing 3-3 at home to Osborne Coburg after 90 minutes. Harry Ovnik, Sam Yelland and Kade Woodford scored for W&B, with Harry Green (2) and Charlie Panayi on target for Osborne, before W&B won the shoot-out.

Also in the Challenge Cup, Brading won 2-1 at home to Vectis, with goals from yellow-carded, Dan Vale, and sub, Aaron Bennett.

There was a consolation goal from Harry Furness, with Ellis Lomas also booked for the Romans.

Ventnor top Division One after beating neighbours, Shanklin, 3-1 at Watcombe Bottom, with goals from former Shanklin striker, Kyle Drew, prolific Emerson Tattersall and Harry Mulholland. Shanklin’s consolation goal was scored by Josh Field, who was yellow-carded, alongside Dan Field, from Shanklin. Ventnor keeper, Cameron Farley, was player of the match.

Northwood won 4-3 at home to Binstead COB, with 2 Connor Moody goals including a penalty, with 1 apiece for George Holmes and Lewis Blackmore. Jamie Dyer netted a consolation hat-trick for the binmen.

In Division Two, a Josh Richardson hat-trick, and strike from Gary Richardson, ensured an East Cowes Sports win 4-0 away at Newchurch.

Goals from Cruz Wragg, Liam Blythe’s spot-kick, and Jordan Fowkes, saw Niton win 3-2 at home to Ryde Saints.

Oakfield won 8-3 away at Newport Res. Cian McGee and Nathan Roberts grabbed hat-tricks with 1 apiece for Tyler and senior sub, debutant Ricky Larbalestier, with Reon Obeyesekere getting yellow-carded.

Combination Leagues

In Combination One, Bembridge Res won 5-1 at home to East Cowes Sports Res, with Brandon Tuckey, Ryan James, Lewis Parker-Meadows, Barry Calvert and Ollie Gough on target for Bembridge. Lewis Flux scored for East Cowes.

Two goals from Dylan Andrews saw Sandown & Lake Res win 2-0 away at Brading Res.

In a fiesty match, West Wight Res won 5-1 at home to W&B Res, with goals from Josh Daley, Jordan Flynn, Simon Merrett, Jason Moore and George Saunders. Barney Snaith was on target for W&B. West Wight saw yellow cards for Connal Groom, Jason Moore, Robbie Simmonds, and a sending off for Ollie Carey. Liam Slaven was yellow-carded, and Jaiden Whillier red-carded for the visitors.

Ryan Hill netted 5 times, with 1 apiece for Joe Gibbon, Sam Collings and Keenan Phillips, for Shanklin Res to win 8-0 at home to Northwood Res.

Binstead COB Res won 3-2 at home to Ventnor Res, with Dan and Brad Verstraeten scoring for Ventnor.

Osborne Coburg Res won 5-2 at home to High Park Res, with a hat-trick for player-of-the-match, Connor Coburn, an own goal and 1 from Brad Gamble.

Combination Two leaders Ventnor A won 3-0 at home to West Wight A, with 2 goals from Robert Gee and 1 from Harrison Cutler.

Niton Res won 6-1 at home to Ryde Saints Res, with goals from Ben Sibley, Tony Potts (2), Dan Skinner, Kurtis Smith and Tom Brownrigg, with Matt Wootton on target for the visitors.

Josh Parsons scored all the goals for Oakfield Res when they won 4-1 at home to Newchurch Res.

Goals from Harry Brown and Ash Daniels (2) helped Sandown & Lake A win 4-2 at home to Osborne Coburg A, with consolation goals from Lewis Kelly and Will Takel.

Wessex Leagues

Temporary manager, Ian Potts, following the departure of Max Draper, saw Cowes lose 3-1 at home to Baffin Milton Rovers, with Scott McFarlane scoring for the yachtsmen who remain at the foot of the Premier Division.

Division One leaders, East Cowes Vics, won 2-1 at home to Frimley Green, with goals from Rafferty Boyd-Kerr and Josh Neale.

Eighth-placed Newport won 4-0 away at Folland Sports, with goals from Mac Watterson, Jordan Browne (2) and Keelan Walsh.

Women’s Football

Shanklin Ladies won 3-1 at home to Basingstoke in Hants Division One. Thea Broadhead scored two, followed by a close corner from Sienna Brennan.

In Division Two, Wight Eagles narrowly lost 4-3 away at Winchester City Flyers, with goals from Abi Joyce and Kira Smith (2), and a player-of-the-match performance from Ayisha Keyes.

Midweek results

Newly re-formed Oakfield overcame High Park 3-1 to win the Ryde & District Challenge Cup at Smallbrook on Wednesday evening. In an evenly-contested match, Oakfield led at the break, with High Park equalising early in the second half from a free-kick. With less than 15 minutes left, Oakfield extended their lead with 2 quick goals, and a disciplined Oakfield defence ensured they claimed the trophy. Oakfield goals were scored by Reon Obeyesekere, Nathan Roberts and Josh Parsons, with High Park’s equaliser from Reece Galloway. Dean May (Oakfield) and Joe Salmon (High Park) were red carded by ref, Andy Dorning.

In the Gold Cup, under floodlights, Brading beat Shanklin 3-2, with first-half goals from Roman’s Dan Vale and player-of-the-match, Lewis Parsons, with the winner coming from Aaron Bennet. Shanklin’s goals came from a stunning 25-yard volley from Tom Ashley, and Josh Field.

In the Hants Senior Cup, Newport lost 7-1 at home to Aldershot, with sub, Henry West, scored the consolation goal.

This weekend, in Wessex, Cowes travel to Fareham Town, Vics visit Blackfield & Langley, with Newport home to Verwood Town.

On the Island, Binstead COB welcome Brading, Cowes Res host Bembridge, Shanklin entertain West Wight, Vectis are home to W&B, with Ventnor playing Northwood.
