Figgy Gig paid tribute to International Women’s Day at the Community Hall of Yarmouth and District (CHOYD) last Friday.
A packed River Room enjoyed all-female entertainment from the scintillating Sheshells, the gifted Amy Jolliffe, the poetic Pat Murgatroyd, and mesmerising Phoenix-Sahar Egyptian dance, aka Dawn Everest, who had the audience on its feet for an impromptu dance lesson. New poetic troupe Triple Crones – Jean G-Owen, Cheryl May, and Sandy Kealty – staged ‘Crones Claim Your Crowns’. The Gig closed with performers joining in ‘All Kinds of Women’, an anthem Jean wrote for the occasion, with music by Ross Glanfield.
Thanks to the audience’s generosity, £130 was raised for WOW-Isle of Wight Women’s Centre. The next Figgy Gig, at CHOYD, celebrates Wild West Wight on Friday, March 31.
